Garbage Clean-ups
Take a look outside as you are driving or walking to school or worse remember when you're enjoying the nature in a forest or at a park; what did you most definitely encounter? Garbage, litter, people's waste. Whenever I see beer bottles in the gutter or plastic bags stuck in a tree, I feel sad and disappointed about how low we humans really are.
That's why whenever I get the chance I participate in a community clean-up. A few months ago, when the snow finally melted and all of the hidden litter appeared once again, Tim Hortons sponsored a Cambridge garbage pick-up at different locations around town. My dad and I volunteered for this opportunity, however decided to clean all of the built up litter near our home. I was honestly surprised of my disgusting finds in the forest. I recovered an old car tire, a lot of pop cans and numerous amount of plastic wrappers. One thing that I found that was a Wall-E moment and made me truly recognize our human impact was a tiny plant attempting to grow out of a rusty old can. After we collected four full bags of garbage, we headed home covered in mud and thorns and I felt so proud. Just the feeling and thought that you have done something good for the environment is rewarding.
The City of Cambridge does have a few community clean-ups or some other environmental events once and a while. If you're interested in upcoming activities or just want to participate more in the community I would check out their webpage.

Civic Mirror - Practice response
This week my FFP class started the practice run threw of the online Civic Mirror educational game. And it was a disaster! Everybody was freaking out about getting energy sources and they were completely forgetting about all the other priorities that are needed as well. Then a sneaky member of our class (*cough* Taylor) introduced scheming and manipulating other players by tricking players into trading wrong items. That lead to other people trying this method as well and ended up with some class members losing their valuable hexes or left with nothing for their families. Then some class members stopped playing resulting with players not able to accumulate certain resources.
When the class starts the full version we will all most likely be dead within' a few years if we continue the way that we first played. I'm going to propose a few ideas to the class on how we can all survive. I know that some players will have hidden agendas that could possibly be to reek havoc on the country, but hope if we form a strong government, we as a class could contain them. An idea that I think could work well is to right away build another energy hex so that everyone can get an energy source and cross off that problem.
I hope that in my hidden agenda I receive the role of the environmentalist because I see that as an easier task. In the practice run most people didn't care for the tree hexes at the beginning. Also being the capitalist would kind of be fun because all you have to do is make money.
I'm really excited about starting the game next week. Hopefully it's not a complete disaster even though it's a little fun tricking other players!
